US Supreme Court gives Trump the green light to deport immigrants.
According to Al Arabiya, the US Supreme Court on Friday allowed the Trump administration to revoke the legal status of half a million immigrants.
Trump had previously asked the Supreme Court to revoke the legal status of 532,000 immigrants who came to the United States from several countries.
Trump, in his second term, has taken steps to tighten immigration enforcement. These measures include deporting an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants in the United States. Trump has argued that the legal entry parole programs launched under the previous US administration exceeded the limits of federal law and called for their termination in an executive order on January 20.
Biden introduced a conditional entry program for Venezuelans in 2022, and in 2023 the program was expanded to Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans. The new legal pathways were created as Biden sought to limit illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border.
The Trump administration’s decision to revoke the legal status of half a million immigrants could expose many to deportation. It is not yet clear how many people who entered the United States on parole have received other types of protection or legal status.
