PNN – The United States’ permanent representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said that a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia may not be reached by the end of the current year.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. representative to NATO, said in an interview with Fox News that Ukraine must prepare for the continuation of the conflict into 2026, as a peace agreement may not be finalized by the end of this year.
He added: Ukraine must be ready to keep fighting into 2026 as well. That is why the European Union approved a $105 billion loan to cover the costs of sustaining this situation. When we enter the winter and there is still no peace agreement, the fighting will continue.
The U.S. representative to NATO emphasized that the absence of a peace agreement in the coming months means the continuation of battles on the front lines.
Several rounds of negotiations between the United States, Europe, Ukraine, and Russia have so far yielded no results. Ukraine’s withdrawal from areas in Donbas remains the main challenge in the talks. Despite Kyiv backing away from its demand to join NATO, it has opposed handing over the entire Donbas to Moscow.
