Vance: We will walk away from talks if Moscow and Kyiv reject peace plan.
According to TASS, US President Donald Trump’s vice president, JD Vance, said that the US had made a “very clear proposal” and that Washington would walk away from the peace talks if Moscow and Kiev did not agree to it.
Bloomberg quoted Vance as saying after Vance visits the Taj Mahal: “It’s time for them to either respond positively or for the US to walk away from this process (of talks).”
He said that to stop the killing, the parties must lay down their weapons and, by stopping the war, get busy making Russia and Ukraine better, adding: “There will be some land swaps. I am optimistic about the talks.”
According to Vance, all sides have been negotiating in good faith so far. On April 20, Trump expressed hope that a peace agreement in Ukraine could be reached in the coming weeks. According to the New York Post, Trump’s plan would likely include sending a European force to Kiev-controlled territory and creating a joint commission with representatives from Russia, Ukraine and a third non-NATO country to oversee the ceasefire.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Trump will abandon efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis if peace talks do not conclude in the near future. Trump, hinting at the possibility of the US pulling out of the talks, said he was unwilling to let that happen.
