PNN – Venezuela’s Foreign Minister called for the immediate release of Nicolas Maduro and his wife in a statement.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Khil announced that his country has been targeted by a military operation with political and economic motives, and called for an immediate end to “unilateral coercive measures” and the immediate release of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

According to the Al-Mayadeen Network, he also announced Venezuela’s participation in the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, emphasizing that Caracas, represented by Maduro and Delcy Rodriguez, his vice president, attended the meeting as an independent, free, and peace-loving country.

Criticizing what he called “the use of the human rights case as a tool for political pressure on countries,” Khil stated that the Venezuelan people have faced systematic legal violations due to sanctions and unilateral coercive measures.

He also said that the recent military attack on the country took place within this framework.

Referring to the January 3rd incident and the US attack on his country, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister called it a “blatant violation of national sovereignty” and said that the attack resulted in the deaths of more than 100 people and was aimed at illegally detaining Maduro and his wife.

He also emphasized that, despite these developments, Caracas has decided to keep channels of dialogue and bilateral cooperation with the United States open and insists on defending its national sovereignty.

Khel also announced his meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council meeting and emphasized the bonds of “fraternity and solidarity” between the two countries in defending the principle of sovereignty and the right of nations to self-determination.
