Accordingly, the Trump administration is trying to convince Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina to significantly weaken the Russia sanctions bill, while the White House seeks to repair relations with Russia rather than punish Moscow for its continued invasion of Ukraine.

One of the key provisions of the bill, which is supported by more than 80 of the 100 senators in the Senate, is to impose sanctions on key Russian officials and departments, as well as punish countries that cooperate with Moscow.

Trump is concerned that the sanctions will damage his goal of restoring US-Russia relations as he seeks to end the war in Ukraine.
