Washington Post claims; that Kyiv is preparing for Trump’s return to the White House!
According to Russia Today, the Washington Post newspaper wrote in a report that despite criticism from Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the 2024 US election, of the country’s military aid to Ukraine and the need to stop this aid, Kyiv officials believe that his return to the White House will not be disastrous for Kyiv and that Trump’s criticisms are merely propaganda.
The Washington Post, citing two members of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s team, wrote that the Republican candidate’s “negative” messages about Ukraine are merely “election propaganda” and have no connection to his actions if he wins the US election on November 5.
According to the media outlet, there is a belief in the Kyiv government that Trump does not want to appear weak in the eyes of the international community by turning his back on Ukraine, and as a result, he may take more decisive measures in support of Kyiv.
The Washington Post claimed that “given Russia’s advance on the battlefield over the past year,” Ukrainian officials believe that the status quo, which would remain in place if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris wins, “is no longer working, and therefore a significant shift in U.S. policy toward Ukraine would likely benefit Kyiv.”
The newspaper also claims that there is optimism in Zelensky’s office that he can build a good personal relationship with Trump and thus turn him into a supporter of Kyiv. However, several Ukrainian officials who spoke to The Washington Post on condition of anonymity acknowledged that a “slowdown” in U.S. support for Kyiv is “more likely” if Trump returns to the White House. They expressed concern that Trump could pressure Ukraine to cede territory and make concessions to Russia in exchange for peace.
Trump said on a podcast last month that the war between Russia and Ukraine was a “failure” and that Zelensky should never have allowed it to start. He described the Ukrainian president as one of the “greatest businessmen he’s ever seen,” referring to Zelensky’s ability to convince US President Joe Biden to provide military aid to Kyiv during his visits to Washington. Trump has repeatedly claimed that if he returns to the White House, he will end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours!
