Washington Post: Trump is cracking down on free speech on a massive scale

PNN – The Washington Post wrote in an article referring to the executive orders of US President Donald Trump that he issued since taking office: Critics accuse him of massive suppression of free speech and violation of the US Constitution.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from this popular American newspaper, Trump’s critics say he has been trying to eliminate wok (a type of ideology that means consciousness about issues of social justice and racial justice), which is in conflict with the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

According to the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which was approved in 1791, the government is prohibited from enacting laws to establish a religion as the official religion, the free exercise of religion, or to limit the freedom of speech, the right to peaceful assembly, or the right to sue for damages from the government.

According to this newspaper, Trump and Elon Musk, as his billionaire ally, have shown themselves in the discussion of absolutist freedom of speech and are trying to move America back to the same direction after years of liberal efforts to silence the voices of conservatives.

Since Trump’s inauguration on January 20, critics say that he has launched widespread attacks on freedom of speech; including his attempt to destroy the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) policy, whose goal and motto is to hire and employ people of different races or with disabilities.

Michelle Deutschman, executive director of the “National Center for Freedom of Expression and Civic Participation” at the University of California, said in this regard: You can claim to defend and support free speech, but saying those things doesn’t change the steps taken by the government to further censor. The government is exploiting content-based and even viewpoint-based discrimination to make decisions about people’s words and thoughts.

He then added: Trump’s order to ban diversity, equity and inclusion efforts is a threat to organizations that receive federal funding and at the same time defend said policy.

In another executive order, Trump also ordered schools to ban teaching about “gender ideology” or “discriminatory equality ideology.”

In the continuation of Trump and his team’s attacks on freedom of speech, this newspaper described it as a kind of retreat from the ideology of “Wook” “vigilance towards social justice and awakening against racism”, which makes America known as a racist and sexist country.

The author considers this to be, in many ways, the latest and perhaps the most brutal chapter in a long-running cultural battle.

However, reports indicate that even non-federal institutions such as universities are removing flags supporting DEI. To many free speech experts, this is a discouraging sign of the government’s threats, even if the courts eventually overturn some of Trump’s actions.

Deutschman explained in the same context: the law moves slower than what is happening, and even when an issue is raised in court and preliminary orders are issued by the judge, there is still a threat.

While confirming some concerns about Trump’s actions, Rick Hess, a senior expert at the conservative think tank “American Enterprise”, emphasized that during Joe Biden’s tenure as a Democratic president, there were also threats against some free speech.
