Washington Post: Trump not listening to Musk’s plea to lift tariffs’
The Washington Post, citing two sources familiar with the matter, reported that Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of SpaceX and the Trump administration’s productivity secretary, has repeatedly called for the tariffs to be lifted in recent days, but the calls have been fruitless.
The tariffs are the most contentious dispute between Trump and Musk, which arose after Trump decided to impose a 10 percent base tariff on all imports into the United States, in addition to higher tariffs on dozens of other countries.
Musk, who is working as an adviser to Trump on cutting government red tape, called for zero tariffs on trade between the United States and Europe earlier this week during a summit in Florence, Italy.
Economic experts believe that Trump’s tariffs will reignite inflation, increasing the risk of the United States entering a recession and raising prices for the middle class by thousands of dollars, a problem that will be costly for the president, who promised to reduce the cost of living during his election campaign.
