PNN – The U.S. special envoy for Syria has stated that a new round of negotiations between Syria and Israel is among the goals of the upcoming Washington visit of Ahmad al-Shar‘, also known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani, head of Syria’s Transitional Interim Government.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Sky News Arabia, Tom Barrett, the U.S. special envoy for Syria, said that Ahmad al-Shar‘ will travel to Washington this November. Speaking on the sidelines of the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, Barrett confirmed that al-Shar‘ will likely sign an agreement to join the coalition against ISIS during the visit.

The American outlet Axios also reported Barrett as saying, “Al-Shar‘’s planned trip to Washington will be accompanied by the fifth round of direct negotiations between Israel and Syria, mediated by the U.S.”
Barrett added that the direct talks during al-Shar‘’s upcoming Washington visit aim to reach a security agreement regarding the border between the two sides by the end of the year.
Al-Shar‘ previously attended the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held from September 22 to 30. Therefore, the November visit will mark his second trip to the U.S. in roughly two months.
