PNN – In an unusual ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court on Tuesday denied former US President Donald Trump’s eligibility to be on the ballot in the US presidential primary.
According to Pakistan News Network, the Supreme Court of the State of Colorado on Tuesday, in an unusual ruling, rejected the competence of the former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to place his name on the ballot in the primary stage of the American presidential elections.
According to this verdict – which was approved with 4 votes in favor and 3 votes against – according to the provisions of paragraph 3 of the 14th amendment to the US Constitution, Donald Trump’s name cannot be on the ballot due to his role in the January 6, 2021 riot, and he cited this law, it has lost “competence to have federal responsibilities”.
A lower court had previously ruled that Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol, amounted to rioting, but that court declined to disqualify him, arguing that Article 3 does not cover presidents.
Of course, this verdict is not yet final and Donald Trump has referred the case to the US Supreme Court. The final verdict of this court is not yet known, but most of the judges of this court are currently conservative and three of them are appointed by Trump himself. Some of the judges of this court have long been critics of granting powers that are not included in the law to the courts.

Of the 270 electoral votes that a candidate must win to win the election, Colorado has 9 electoral votes. In the 2020 election, Joe Biden won this state with a 13% margin over Trump.
Donald Trump’s campaign described the Colorado Supreme Court ruling as “undemocratic”. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign said: “The Colorado Supreme Court made a completely flawed decision, and we will immediately appeal to the Supreme Court.”
Trump and his allies have described impeachment cases in Colorado and other US states as “undemocratic” and part of a conspiracy by political rivals to prevent him from winning the election.
Still, it’s dangerous for Trump because other states that Trump needs to win could use Colorado as a model to oust him. Judges in other states will be closely watching the outcome of the Colorado case against Trump.
So far, voters and human rights groups have tried to remove Trump’s name from the ballots in more than 12 states, but in at least 7 cases, these complaints have not been successful for various reasons.
Courts in Michigan, New Hampshire and Florida have dismissed similar lawsuits against Trump on procedural and jurisdictional grounds, and in some cases the courts have said that unilaterally disqualifying candidates is beyond their jurisdiction.
