Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also arrived in Baghdad today, and it is expected that a tripartite meeting will be held in the capital of Iraq with the presence of his Iraqi and Syrian counterparts in order to review the situation in Syria.
From November 27, 2024, with the support of some countries and the arrival of fresh foreign forces, terrorist groups launched a massive attack on the positions of the Syrian army in the northwest, west and southwest of Aleppo.
In this regard, Syrian Defense Minister General Al-Imad Abbas said on Thursday night that Takfiri groups are supported by some regional and international countries and parties, who openly support them militarily and logistically.
This terrorist military operation against the positions of the Syrian army violated the ceasefire agreement concluded in 2020 because this area is included in the “de-escalation” agreement signed with the guarantee of Turkey in Astana, which includes areas in Idlib, the outskirts of Aleppo and parts of Hama.
Based on the 2017 agreement between Iran, Russia and Türkiye as guarantors of the Astana peace, four safe zones were established in Syria (reduction of tension).
Three regions came under the control of the Syrian army in 2018. But the fourth region, which includes Idlib province in northwestern Syria, parts of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo provinces, is still in the hands of terrorist groups, and it is said that the control of this region is mostly in the hands of the terrorist group Tahrir al-Sham (Al-Nusra Front).
