What is America looking for in the Gaza war?
Despite the international pressures in the world and the pressures of public opinion inside this country, the administration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, has not supported the cessation of the war in Gaza, at least until now, and has announced this issue publicly.
For example, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during his visit to occupied Palestine: “Israel has the right to do whatever it takes to ensure that the massacre of October 7 by Hamas is not repeated.”
In their public positions regarding the war between Hamas and Israel, American officials have identified four goals, including explicit support for Israel, preventing the spread of this conflict outside the Gaza Strip, the release of more than 200 prisoners held by Hamas, and helping to reduce the level of the humanitarian crisis. It is in Gaza.
In the two months that have passed since the start of the war in Gaza, the only statements made by American officials that smell of some kind of tactical disagreement with the Israelis are their emphasis on reducing civilian casualties and reducing the level of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In public statements and private circles, American officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for Israel to take measures to prevent the killing of civilians in Gaza.
In recent days, White House officials have emphasized that Israel cannot implement the strategy implemented in northern Gaza in the southern region, which is denser in terms of population.
However, it would be naïve to assume that these statements mean that human lives matter to US government officials. Putting the other pieces of the puzzle together reveals that such stances are taken not out of concern for the inherent right of human life, but out of an effort to protect Israel and prevent international pressure on Israel for military operations and, by the way, to facilitate the killing of civilians.
When Blinken was in occupied Palestine, the Axios base reported that he warned in a meeting with the Israeli war cabinet that as long as the war in Gaza continues with the current intensity, the pressure on Tel Aviv and Washington will increase, and that is why Israel’s operations will continue. It will cause problems in Gaza.
