What was discussed in the Israeli Knesset’s closed-door meeting regarding Syria?
According to Ma’ariu, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced in a secret session in the Knesset that Tel Aviv is negotiating with Syria on security arrangements with the support of the United States.
The Zionist media outlet Ma’ariu revealed: During a secret session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Tuesday, the Foreign Minister revealed the ongoing negotiations over the past months to sign a security agreement with Syria.
He announced in his secret report that Israel is particularly interested in examining this agreement, but it has certain conditions, which are ensuring security and operational capacity along the northern borders.
Sa’ar said in this closed session: “I have held negotiations to reach a security agreement with Syria. We are willing to agree to them, but on our terms. We must be able to eliminate threats near the border, and therefore our presence in some border areas such as Jabal al-Sheikh is of vital importance.”
Gideon Sa’ar’s statement reveals Israel’s view that any plan must ensure the regime’s continued control over strategic centers, especially the Jabal al-Sheikh heights, which are of vital importance to the Zionist regime’s army.
This position indicates that Israel will never agree to regional changes that limit its freedom of action against threats in Syria and Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump is deeply concerned about Israel’s recent military actions on Syrian soil and believes that these actions could jeopardize the historic opportunity to normalize relations between Damascus and Tel Aviv and turn Syria into a permanent enemy of Israel.
