Which group will control Syria’s oil wells?
The Arab 21 news website wrote in a report: With the fall of the former regime in Syria, an important issue that is being considered in this country is the control of oil wells. In light of the internal developments in this country, it is expected that the power and influence of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Forces, abbreviated as SDF, supported by the US, which controls 80 percent of Syria’s oil wells, will increase.
In light of US support, efforts to continue to take control of oil wells by the SDF forces will increase, and it is expected that the US will continue to be militarily present in these areas to continue to use Syrian oil.
Turkey may also try to take control of the country’s oil wells in the northern regions by abusing the new conditions in Syria. Turkey has supported groups based in Syria and may want to directly benefit from these oil wells.
Ankara may reach agreements with groups based in some oil-rich areas such as the eastern region and Afrin. The conflict over the oil wells of Deir Ezzor and Al-Hasakah will be more complicated, with analysts saying tensions may increase among international forces in this regard.
