White House brief statement on 12-hour US-Russia talks in Riyadh.
The White House issued a statement, citing 12 hours of US-Russian talks in the Saudi capital, centered on Ukraine, according to Russia Today.
The statement said: “The situation in the Black Sea, as well as an agreement to stop attacks on Russian and Ukrainian energy infrastructure proposed by US President Donald Trump, were the focus of bilateral technical talks. The US and Russia agreed to ensure safe shipping, the non-use of force, and the prevention of the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.”
Elsewhere in the statement, we read: The US is committed to helping restore Russia’s access to the global market for agricultural and fertilizer exports; reduce marine insurance costs; and improve access to ports and payment systems for such transactions.
According to the White House press service, both Moscow and Washington remain committed to working toward a lasting, long-term peace to end the war in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously confirmed that the talks aimed to explore the possibility of reviving the Grain Agreement (Black Sea Initiative), which was initially concluded in July 2022 with the mediation of the UN and Türkiye.
