Whitkoff: Verification of nuclear program is key point in negotiations with Iran.
Reuters quoted Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East and the top US representative in the talks with Iran, as saying: “The subject of the talks with Tehran will be verification of the uranium enrichment program first and then the weapons program.”
Witkoff said: “Verification of Iran’s nuclear program will be a key point for the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran.”
He added: “Our first meeting with the Iranian side was positive and constructive, and we are now examining whether a solution to this situation can be found through dialogue and diplomacy.”
Witkoff claimed, “If we are not able to verify Iran’s nuclear program, we will be forced to look for alternative options, and these options will not benefit anyone.”
Al-Mayadeen also reported that Whittaker claimed in an interview with Fox News: “The issue [of the negotiations] is basically about verifying Iran’s enrichment program and then verifying weapons, which will include missiles and the types of missiles that they have.”
According to the report, Whittaker claimed, “Any agreement with Iran will be based on determining the details of verifying the uranium enrichment program and the ‘nuclear weapons programs.’”
