PNN – The US President’s special representative for nuclear negotiations with Iran told Fox News that US President Donald Trump was surprised by the intransigence of Iranian officials.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Steve Whittkoff said: I don’t want to use the word surrender, but the US president is curious to know why they (senior Iranian officials) haven’t surrendered yet.
He added: Why, under all this pressure and this amount of naval power in that region, why haven’t they come forward and stated that they don’t want (nuclear) weapons? It’s difficult to get the Iranians to do that.
Regarding the type of possible agreement with Iran, Whittkoff said: Before we went to (Geneva) (to negotiate with the Iranians), Trump instructed us that there were red lines: zero enrichment and we had to return the (nuclear) material.
He added: They (Iran) say their nuclear program is for civilian use, but they are enriching at levels that are much higher than the civilian program. (Their enrichment level) is up to 60 percent.
Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, without providing any documentation or considering the peaceful nature of our country’s nuclear program, claimed: They (Iran) are maybe a week away from having industrial-grade enriched uranium and making the material for a nuclear bomb. That’s very dangerous. So they can’t have that.
He claimed: They should build with this (restriction) until they prove to us that they are operating within the framework.
In response to the host’s question about some figures in Tehran’s opposition, the Trump administration’s chief negotiator announced his meeting with some of these individuals and emphasized: But (negotiations with Iran) will be based on Trump’s policies. I think the US president is looking to hear everyone’s opinions and welcomes new ideas.
