Who is the leading Republican candidate to succeed Trump in the 2028 election?
This popular American newspaper, in an analysis, examined the possible candidates from the Republican Party after the end of the second Trump administration and wrote: The Republican Party will soon face this question, and after nearly a decade of Trump’s dominance and the redefinition of conservatism, there is no doubt that the next leader of the Republican Party must maintain the values of MAGA (Make America Great Again).
The first person on this list is Vice President J.D. Vance.
J.D. Vance; Trump’s exact copy
From the author’s point of view, Vance is no different from Trump and has supported the policies of the Trump administration since taking office as Vice President of the United States, even if it requires changing some of his previous positions. He has played a significant role in confronting the Democrats, including in the government shutdown, and attacking critics of Charlie Kirk, a media activist close to Trump.
Polls also show that Republican voters are happy with his performance. A September YouGov poll found that Vance is at the top of the list of candidates Republicans are likely to vote for in 2028.
Vance could have a long political future, according to a Washington Post analyst, as he is the youngest candidate on the list at 41 and one of the youngest vice presidents in American history.
Marco Rubio
Trump’s Secretary of State has been a major figure in international news, from the Gaza peace talks to the controversial foreign aid cuts. Although he is not at the top of the list of voters in early 2028 polls, Trump has repeatedly mentioned him as a potential successor.
Trump once told reporters on Air Force One: “Marco is great. I’m not sure anyone can stand up to those two (Vance and Rubio). If they team up, they’d be unbeatable.”
Donald Trump Jr., the frontrunner for the midterms
According to the author of this analysis, Trump’s eldest son, although he has never held public office, is an advisor and confidant of his father.
The figurehead tries to present himself as the legitimate heir to the MAGA movement and recently said that “there is this mission. I think my father really changed the Republican Party. Now it’s America First, the MAGA Party, you can look at it any way you want.”
