PNN – Following the announcement of the resignation date of Ronen Bar, head of the Israeli Internal Security Agency (Shabak), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is attempting to eliminate current and former members of the Shabak from the nomination process for the post of head of the organization and select a political official close to him to lead the Internal Security Agency.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Israeli TV Channel 13 News has published a report on Netanyahu’s serious efforts to remove long-time members of the Shin Bet from the list of potential candidates to head the organization.
According to the report, Netanyahu is trying to eliminate potential Shin Bet chief candidates who currently serve in the agency or have served as Shin Bet deputy chiefs in the past. He has also decided to appoint someone from outside the Shin Bet and close to him to head the agency.
Yair Sagi, former deputy director of the Shin Bet, and current deputy director Ronen Bar, nicknamed “S,” are among the individuals the Israeli prime minister is seeking to eliminate.
The media outlet added: Netanyahu is even considering introducing people who are not accepted by the current Shin Bet chief.
According to the regime’s Channel 13 TV, after Ronen Bar announced last week that he would resign from his position on June 15, Netanyahu canceled his formal dismissal order and immediately moved to remove his petitions from the Supreme Court against the Shin Bet chief’s dismissal. However, Gali Bharao Miyara, the regime’s legal prosecutor, has requested the parties’ positions by May 7.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Ronen Bar’s resignation was announced too late, five weeks after Netanyahu’s decision to end his term. The end date of the current Shin Bet directorship, which was also mentioned in the resignation letter, was also announced too late.
Under these circumstances, the process of appointing the next head of the Internal Security Agency will be time-consuming. Netanyahu’s attempt to select his preferred candidate is expected to plunge the organization into chaos and crisis.
