Whose microphone was cut off at the Palestine summit?
Anadolu Agency reported today that after the speeches of the Turkish and Indonesian leaders last night (September 21) went beyond their allotted time, their microphones were automatically cut off, although at least in the case of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he was able to finish his speech despite the microphone being cut off.
Anadolu quoted the Turkish Communications Directorate as saying: Erdogan’s speech at the Palestine conference was not cut off.
The Directorate’s statement said: The speeches of the heads of state and government were allotted 5 minutes and the other speakers 3 minutes.
The Directorate’s statement, noting that there were sometimes pauses during President Erdogan’s speech due to applause from the audience, added that according to technical procedures, the microphone was automatically cut off at the end of the fifth minute.
The Directorate’s statement said: President Erdogan finished his speech shortly after that. The Indonesian President’s microphone was also cut off in accordance with the same procedure.
It is worth noting that, contrary to some rumors circulating in the media, the Jordanian king’s speech at the summit was not interrupted by a similar technical problem.
The “High-Level International Summit for the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” was held yesterday at the UN headquarters in New York, hosted by Saudi Arabia and France.
At the summit, a group of world leaders announced their governments’ decision to recognize the state of Palestine, while another group, while emphasizing the two-state solution, condemned the genocide in the Gaza Strip and the Zionist settlements.
In his speech at the summit, the Turkish President stated: “Human suffering in the Gaza Strip has increased, attacks on this region continue, and the goal of the Netanyahu government is to make the establishment of a Palestinian state impossible.”
He said: “The Palestinian issue is a global issue, and the Netanyahu government is currently committing genocide against our neighbors, and standing up to Israeli oppression is a moral responsibility.”
