Wide coverage of the start of the second round of Iran’s presidential elections in foreign media

PNN – Simultaneously with the start of the second round of the presidential elections in Iran, the international media covered this round of elections and public participation in it.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the second round of Iran’s presidential election has started at eight in the morning and the international media has covered the election widely by introducing the candidates.

In the second round of Iran’s 14th presidential election, Masoud Pezishkian, a former member of Iran’s parliament and former minister of health, treatment and medical education, and Saeed Jalili, a nuclear negotiator and former secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, are competing for the presidency. Pezishkian and Jalili appeared as the leading candidates in the early presidential elections on June 28, but they could not get the 50% plus one vote required for a decisive victory.

Al Jazeera Qatar, CNN America, France 24, BBC, Armenia News Agency, Hindustan Times, PTI India, Azerbaijan Trend, India Today, British Guardian newspaper and many other Asian, Arabic and international media paid to cover this election.

The Russian news agency Sputnik published videos of the first minutes of the voting and wrote that the people of Iran started the second round of the elections with a large participation.

China Central Television also wrote on its news website: Iranian people will choose one person in the second round of presidential elections between Iran’s former Minister of Health Masoud Pezishkian and Saeed Jalili, former chief nuclear negotiator.

The voting process is planned for 10 hours, but it is likely to be extended by the Ministry of Interior, which manages the elections, so that more voters can participate. In the previous elections, voting was extended three times and ended at midnight, and voter turnout was 40%.

Referring to the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, AFP wrote in its report: In the second round of Iran’s presidential elections, the people of Iran go to the polls to replace the late President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.

This news agency also broadcast live the statements of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution after participating in the elections.

This media added: In last week’s voting, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the conservative speaker of the parliament, came in third place with 13.8%, and Mustafa Pourmohammadi, the former minister of the country, won less than 1% of the votes.

Iran’s presidential election was originally planned for 2025, but it was held earlier due to the martyrdom of the Iranian president in a helicopter crash.

About 61 million people are eligible to vote in this year’s presidential election. About 10 million Iranians living abroad are also eligible to vote in 344 polling stations designated in different countries.

According to the Election Headquarters, in last week’s elections, 97,967 votes were cast abroad. However, the Canadian government did not allow the polling stations to operate.

A total of 58,640 polling stations will facilitate the voting process in the second round of elections in Iran as in the previous round, more than 6,000 of which are only in Tehran as the capital.
