Widespread boycott of the international AI conference hosted by the Israeli regime.
The Israeli media outlet reported that the majority of countries around the world have declined to participate in an upcoming meeting in protest of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, rejecting Tel Aviv’s invitation. Haaretz emphasized that Tel Aviv has failed significantly in its efforts to coordinate the conference, as most nations have opted to boycott the event due to the Israeli government’s war policies.
According to the report, the Israeli Ministry of Education spent millions of shekels on the conference, which was scheduled to take place in occupied Jerusalem in February. However, this investment is now facing a diplomatic stalemate. Invitations were sent to education ministers and high-ranking officials from various countries as early as last August, but most showed little interest in attending the conference, largely due to the political and diplomatic circumstances surrounding the Gaza conflict.
Additionally, the cancellation of concerts, the boycott of artists, the threat of Israel’s suspension from Eurovision, and the reduction of scientific cooperation with Europe are indicative of the decline in the regime’s global standing. Researchers have referred to this phenomenon as a “silent boycott.”cott.”
