PNN – A human rights organization has reported that a large number of people have died in prisons run by Syria’s new regime over the past ten months.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Mayadeen TV, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that from January to October 2025, 59 people died under torture in prisons and detention centers operated by the al-Jolani regime.
The organization added that during the same period, dozens of cases of enforced disappearances and mass burials of victims were also documented.

According to the report, the victims included both civilians and former military personnel from the previous Syrian government, some of whom were local officials or employees with no political or military activity.
The highest number of torture-related deaths was recorded in the provinces of Homs, Aleppo, Damascus, and Tartus.
The report further noted that most of these incidents occurred in February and August, when dozens of detainees were killed due to torture, medical negligence, or summary executions.
The Syrian Observatory also reported cases of mass graves containing torture victims buried without notifying their families, including one found in the “Tal al-Nasr” area of Homs.
The organization further revealed the deaths of several former officers and security officials from the previous Syrian government in the new regime’s detention centers, including “Tariq Habib Asmandar,” the former commander of the Taftanaz Air Base.
Meanwhile, sources linked to the al-Jolani regime attempted to justify the ongoing crackdown on civilians in various parts of Syria by claiming it was part of operations against ISIS-affiliated groups.
In this context, a spokesman for al-Jolani’s Interior Ministry claimed that the regime’s security forces, during 61 raids on what they described as “ISIS cells across the country,” arrested 71 individuals and seized quantities of explosives and weapons.
