Will Trump’s election pave the way for Beijing’s military action against Taiwan?

PNN – The South China Morning Post wrote in a report: Given predictions of possible military conflicts this year and recent developments in Ukraine, analysts believe that political changes in the United States and Taiwan could provide an opportunity for Beijing to take advantage of these fluctuations and take new steps towards reunification with Taiwan.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from this publication: As China’s political elite gather for their annual legislative sessions, the country’s geopolitical and economic climate for the year ahead is significantly influenced by a number of factors. One of the main themes of the gathering is the issue of Taiwan and Beijing’s policies towards the reunification of the island with mainland China.

According to the report, over the past few years, Beijing’s possible military actions to achieve this goal have been the subject of much prediction and analysis by analysts.

In this regard, Mike Minihan, a four-star general in the US Air Force, made the following point in a memo published two years ago and still referenced in military and diplomatic circles: I hope I’m wrong; my heart tells me we’ll be at war with China in 2025.

The remarks come as leadership elections were held in Taiwan and the United States last year, a situation that is likely to cause Washington to become preoccupied with its own domestic and competitive issues and give Beijing the opportunity to take military action in Taiwan.

The publication, citing analysts, adds that the biggest geopolitical development this year has been the events in Ukraine; on this front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was threatened by an angry American head of state that American support would be cut off if he did not accept an agreement with Moscow. These events indicate a shift in Washington’s priorities and the possibility of a vacuum of focus in US foreign policy, which could be a factor influencing Beijing’s decisions regarding Taiwan.

Also, according to analysts, China’s indifference to some domestic economic challenges and its focus on maintaining economic growth indicate that this year, in addition to using a “carrot and stick” approach to Taiwan issues, Beijing is also trying to project its power to the world through increased military and diplomatic pressure.
