Yemen Humiliates US Navy.

According to Al Jazeera, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal published a detailed report on the intense clashes between the US Navy and the Ansar Allah movement before the ceasefire between the two sides in early May.

The report states that American officials are now analyzing the conflict to determine how a troublesome enemy was able to challenge the best naval fleet in the world, the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman.

The report, prepared by two reporters from the Wall Street Journal, states that last month, a US F-18 Super Hornet fighter jet was trying to land on the aircraft carrier Truman in the Red Sea, but its deceleration system failed and the $67 million fighter jet skidded off the carrier’s runway and crashed into the sea.

This was the third US fighter jet lost on the Truman in less than five months. The incident came hours after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with the Yemenis, surprising Pentagon officials.

Yemen challenges the world’s most powerful navy

The Yemenis have been a surprisingly formidable opponent for the US, engaging in the fiercest fighting the US Navy has seen since World War II, despite lacking even the most basic amenities and living in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Nearly 30 ships have been involved in combat operations in the Red Sea since late 2023, accounting for 10 percent of the US Navy’s total active fleet. The US has spent $1.5 billion on munitions in Yemen since late 2023, according to a US official.

But the United States has failed to achieve its strategic goal of restoring navigation in the Red Sea, while the Yemenis continue to regularly fire missiles into occupied Palestine.

U.S. military commanders and congressional officials have begun a fact-finding mission to learn from the conflict in Yemen, concerned that the Yemeni operation could undermine the overall readiness of U.S. forces. The Pentagon is also conducting investigations into the downing of U.S. fighter jets and a separate Red Sea collision involving the aircraft carrier USS Truman, the results of which will be known in the coming months.
