Yermak’s Dismissal: Opportunity or Monopoly for Ukraine?
The American Sun wrote that while the dismissal of the influential head of the Ukrainian presidential office is an opportunity for the country’s opposition to press for a national unity government, some analysts are still skeptical that the president of the war-torn country will change his style of governance as a result of this development.
The dismissal of Andriy Yermak from the position of the powerful chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last Friday is a major change for Ukraine that will set the stage for a fierce battle over how to govern the country.
Politico magazine wrote in a report with this introduction: Yermak, who was known as the “Green Cardinal” for wearing military-inspired clothing popularized by his boss Zelensky and was previously a lawyer and second-rate film producer, gained great influence as Zelensky’s top aide and was considered by many to be practically equal to the president of the country.
Opposition politicians will use his ouster in the wake of a $100 million corruption scandal to press their demand for a national unity government in Kyiv – a point they have been emphasizing since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion nearly four years ago, and Yermak’s removal will embolden these parties.
