PNN – The first Muslim mayor of New York has pledged to end Islamophobia in the city, saying he will also put an end to the culture of corruption that has allowed billionaires like Donald Trump to evade taxes.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Zohran Mamdani, and the first Muslim to be elected mayor of New York, announced his victory and stated that he will officially be sworn in as mayor in early January.
Mamdani said he would work to improve the condition of New York City compared to the past.
The new mayor added, “We will fight against antisemitism and Islamophobia in New York City. I thank the citizens of New York who voted for me—and even those who voted for my opponents—for giving me the opportunity to prove that I am worthy of their trust.”

Emphasizing that his goal is to make New York a better place for its residents, he continued, “We won because we refused to let others impose their politics on us. Our priorities will focus on tackling the cost-of-living crisis, making public buses free, and providing comprehensive childcare.”
He declared, “New York will no longer be a city where Islamophobia is traded as a tool for electoral victory.”
Mamdani further stated, “We will end the corrupt culture that has allowed billionaires like Trump to escape taxes and exploit tax loopholes.”
He added, “I am a Muslim and a democratic socialist—and I will never apologize for that.”
Bloomberg reported that this New York mayoral election saw the highest voter turnout in decades.
Andrew Cuomo, an independent candidate in the race, congratulated Zohran Mamdani on his victory after the official results were announced.
In the Virginia gubernatorial election, Democrat Abigail Spanberger won, while U.S. media also reported the victory of Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill in the New Jersey governor’s race.
