“Zakaria Al-Zubaidi”: A free man whose captivity and martyrdom are his family’s legacy.

“Zakaria Al-Zubaidi”: A free man whose captivity and martyrdom are his family’s legacy.

According to Al Jazeera, “Zakaria Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Zubaidi,” who was released from the regime’s prisons yesterday, Thursday, during the exchange of Palestinian prisoners with Israeli prisoners in Gaza, is one of the commanders of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the military wing of the Palestine Liberation Movement, and a former member of the movement’s Revolutionary Council. He was born in 1976. He and his family have a long history of fighting the Zionist regime and participated in numerous military operations in the West Bank. He commanded the military activities of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades during the Second Palestinian Intifada.

Al-Zubaidi had become one of the most wanted individuals in the occupied territories for many years, and even during his captivity, he did not sit idle and was one of the six Palestinian prisoners who participated in the 2021 escape operation from Gilboa prison, which caused a great scandal for the Israeli security forces.

Zakaria al-Zubaidi was born on January 19, 1976, in the Jenin camp in the northern West Bank. His family was forced to migrate and be displaced many times as a result of the Zionist occupation of Palestine and eventually settled in the Jenin camp. His mother was from a family whose right to reside in occupied Palestine was violated by the Zionists, which led to the family being displaced for years, and her mother had to travel to Jordan every three months to obtain a temporary residence permit in the occupied territories.

Al-Zubaidi completed his education at the schools of the Palestinian Refugee Relief and Employment Organization (ANRWA) in the Jenin camp, where he studied theater. Of course, he dropped out of school due to repeated arrests, but he continued to study political science and sociology and learned Hebrew well. After his release, he went to Al-Quds University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
