Zelensky: Dignified peace is essential.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media on Sunday to denounce Russia as solely responsible for the war in Ukraine.
“The main thing is that only Russia started this war and the only reason for it is Russia,” Zelensky wrote.
According to Zelensky, Russian commanders are acting under explicit orders that allow unlimited brutality, contributing to high mortality rates on the front lines and constant attacks on Ukrainian cities. He also accused Russia of kidnapping Ukrainian children and trying to “retrain” them to fight against their own country.
However, Zelensky praised the United States and its allies, thanking “every American” and Trump for the help that he said “saved the lives of Ukrainians.” He also thanked Europe, the G7, and the G20 for their support, and called on Ukraine’s partners to continue to support the country.
The comments came hours after Donald Trump’s messages criticizing Ukraine.
According to IRNA, Donald Trump criticized the Ukrainian government on his social media account, Truth Social, on Sunday, claiming that the country had not appreciated the US support.
He also reiterated that if he had been in power when Russia invaded, the war in Ukraine “would never have happened.”
In a statement released on Sunday, Trump described the war as “violent and horrific” and claimed that the 2020 US presidential election was rigged and the results stolen.
Trump argued that “strong and appropriate leadership from the United States and Ukraine” could have prevented the war.
Describing the war as “a loss for everyone,” Trump said he had inherited a war that should never have happened and blamed the unnecessary deaths on failed leadership in Washington and Kiev.
