Zelensky: Meeting with Trump could bring the war with Russia closer to an end.
Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv has finalized preparations for its upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump, and the agenda includes military and economic components that could help end the war with Russia.
“We have prepared our part before the meeting (October 17) with the US president, which includes military and economic components,” Zelensky said in a speech on Wednesday evening. “All the details are ready. The agenda for our meeting with the US president is very important,” he said.
He thanked those who helped with the preparations, saying: “These talks can really bring the war closer to an end. It is America that can exert this kind of global influence, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that other countries around the world are with us in this effort.”
Zelensky said a Ukrainian delegation, including the prime minister, the head of the presidential administration, and other senior officials, is currently in Washington to prepare for the meeting and to hold talks with US defense and energy companies.
Despite intensive negotiations, Donald Trump has so far failed to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Last week, Trump announced that he was deciding on sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, adding that he needed to know what the purpose of these missiles would be and what targets they would be fired at.
The Axios website had previously reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had asked his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles last week on the sidelines of the 80th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump announced in a press conference that he had decided to some extent on supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
The US president, emphasizing that he was not seeking to escalate tensions, clarified that he wanted to know what the Tomahawk missiles would be used for.
