Zelensky seeks to nominate a new prime minister for Ukraine.

From UPI, Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media: “I have proposed that Yulia Svirdenko take over the leadership of the Ukrainian government and significantly renew its work. I look forward to presenting the new government’s action plan shortly.”

Zelensky continued that he came to this decision after a meeting with Svirdenko, where they decided to make a change in the executive branch, as their goal is to “strengthen Ukraine’s economic potential, expand support programs for the Ukrainian people, and increase domestic weapons production.”

The current Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denis Shmyhal, will remain in office for the time being because, under the Ukrainian constitution, the Verkhovna Rada (the country’s parliament) appoints the prime minister, and Shmyhal must first officially submit his resignation to parliament, which must then be voted on.

If Shmyhal’s resignation is approved by parliament, lawmakers will have 30 days to vote on a new prime minister.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram on Monday that Shmykhal will head the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, whose responsibilities include introducing and implementing “state industrial and military policy, state policy in the field of defense orders and the defense-industrial complex, as well as in the aircraft industry and space activities.”

Sviridenko said on social media on Monday that he was “grateful to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his trust and the opportunity to serve Ukraine at this critical time.”
