PNN – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on Wednesday that the cutoff of Russian gas transit to Europe is one of the country’s biggest failures.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing AFP, Zelensky announced in a message on social networks: When Vladimir Putin came to power in Russia more than 25 years ago, the country’s gas transmission to Europe through Ukraine was more than 130 billion cubic meters per year.
He added: Today, Russian gas transit has reached zero. This is one of the biggest failures of this country.
With the non-renewal of the five-year contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe, the export of Russian natural gas was stopped from the first hours of the first day of 2025.

In a statement, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko announced: We have stopped the transit of Russian gas. This is a historic event. Russia will lose its markets and suffer financial losses. Europe had already decided to give up Russian gas.
Ukraine has previously stressed that it will not renew the agreement amid the military conflict.
According to Reuters, the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which passes through Belarus, has also been closed, and the Nord Stream pipeline has also exploded in 2022.
However, Russia continues to export gas through the Turkish Stream pipeline that runs through the Black Sea. TurkStream has two lines – one serving the Turkish domestic market and the other serving customers in Central Europe, including Hungary and Serbia.
According to Reuters estimates, the interruption of Russian gas transit will cost Ukraine $800 million a year, and Russia’s state-owned company Gazprom will lose nearly $5 billion in revenue from gas sales.
