PNN – A Zionist historian has described the victory of a Muslim candidate in New York’s municipal elections — a city with the largest Jewish population in the world — as a serious warning sign for the Zionist regime.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing the Palestinian Information Center, Kobi Barda, a Zionist historian and expert on U.S. politics, called the victory of Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim candidate in the New York City elections, a dangerous political development and said this event should serve as an alarm bell for Israel.

In an article published by Yedioth Ahronoth, Barda wrote that Mamdani’s victory is not a passing incident, but rather a sign of a growing movement in the United States that questions the legitimacy and very existence of Israel and its right to self-determination.

He added that it is astonishing that a city like New York — home to the largest Jewish population in the world and a city that experienced the events of September 11 — has now elected someone who built his political platform on strong criticism of Israel.

Reviewing Mamdani’s anti-Zionist background, Barda noted that Mamdani had previously called for an end to academic cooperation between Cornell University in New York and Israel’s Technion Institute, and had also supported ending the city’s investment in Israeli government bonds.

The historian further wrote that Mamdani’s victory reflects the growing influence of the progressive left within the Democratic Party and represents a setback for Donald Trump, who in the 2014 elections had managed to improve the Republican position in New York by 11 percent.

Barda emphasized that this development shows Tel Aviv no longer enjoys the same consensus it once had in American society, and that the issue of Israel has now become a divisive topic in both official U.S. politics and public opinion.

He concluded that this event is deeply worrying for the Zionist regime, as its relationship with its most important ally is no longer self-evident or guaranteed.
