Itamar Ben-Gover also said in statements that the Shin Bet chief is a danger to democracy and that he belongs in prison.

Yair Lapid, the leader of the Israeli opposition, also said that the statements made by Itamar Ben-Gover, the Israeli Minister of Internal Security, against the head of the Shin Bet are provocative and dangerous, and that a criminal speaks in this way about the head of the Shin Bet means that there are no longer any rules or laws governing Israel.

Lapid added: If this were to happen in a law-abiding country, the prime minister would dismiss his cabinet member rather than resort to him to save his cabinet coalition.
