Zionist media claims: Iran requested a meeting with E3 before continuing negotiations.
The Zionist website “Ynet News” claimed in an exclusive report that the Iranian side has proposed to hold a meeting with the three countries of Germany, France and the United Kingdom before the start of the fourth round of indirect talks with the United States, which is likely to be held in Rome.
The Zionist website, citing four diplomats, claimed that the European sides have not yet responded to this request. According to the media outlet, the United States alone is not able to re-impose the sanctions mechanism against Iran in the Security Council, and as a result, the E3 are the only signatories to the JCPOA who are able to do so.
According to Ynet News, Iran is seeking to maintain the current pace and momentum of the ongoing talks with Washington after following up on indirect talks with the United States in Oman on Saturday this week, as well as last week’s talks with China and Russia. Omani officials have said that the new round of US-Iran talks will likely be held in Europe on May 3. However, no official decision has been made on this issue yet.
OneNetNews claimed that Iran’s efforts to reach out to the so-called E3 countries indicate that Tehran is keeping its options open while assessing the Europeans’ stance on reimposing UN sanctions on Tehran before October, when Resolution 2231 expires.
The outlet cited two E3 diplomats and a Western diplomat as saying that Iran had proposed a meeting in Rome, possibly on Friday, after Saturday’s talks with the US.
The diplomats said the Iranians had also suggested that if such a meeting were not possible at the proposed time and place, such talks could be held in Tehran before that date.
OneNetNews also claimed that an Iranian official had confirmed the proposal, but the E3 had yet to respond.
According to the media outlet, European and Western diplomats have said that the E3 is assessing whether a meeting with Iran is in their best interest in the current situation or whether it would be better to wait and see how the negotiations with Washington will go. However, according to Ynet, the Europeans have ruled out holding a meeting in Tehran.
The website quoted an Iranian official as saying: “Unity with all parties to the 2015 agreement (JCPOA) is important. Therefore, the meeting with the E3 countries this week will be beneficial on the eve of the next round of negotiations with the Americans.”
The third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman and chaired by Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, and Steve Whittaker, the US President’s Special Representative for the Middle East, ended in Muscat on Saturday this week.
Earlier, the New York Times, citing an informed source, claimed that the next round of talks would likely take place within the next two weeks, but “the American side needs some time to review the information and proposals from the Iranians. The American side wants to move the talks to a more suitable location and closer to the United States.”
