PNN – After footage of an attack on a cameraman while covering events in the field was released, the Israeli army announced that it was investigating an attack by soldiers on a CNN news crew in the West Bank.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, CNN reported that the news group was attacked by Israeli forces near the village of Tiyaser.
The soldiers tried to prevent the journalists from filming by pointing their weapons at them. One soldier grabbed a cameraman by the neck and choked him before throwing him to the ground.
Some equipment was also damaged and several people were arrested at the scene.
The report states that the incident occurred while the news crew was covering the aftermath of settlers attacking local residents while establishing a base in the area.
The report states that the occupying forces later arrived and dismantled the base. Instead, they prevented media coverage.
During the incident, some of the soldiers made controversial statements about “revenge” for the killing of an Israeli in a previous attack.
They also made statements about land ownership in the West Bank, according to CNN.
In a statement, an Israeli military spokesman claimed that the soldiers’ behavior “does not reflect the values of the military institution” and stressed that an investigation into the incident had been launched.
He also noted that he had apologized, claiming that the military’s duties included maintaining order and ensuring the freedom of journalists to operate.
