Details of the new Gaza ceasefire proposal
Yesterday, sources, including sources affiliated with the Hamas movement, announced that the movement had reached a formula for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza with Steve Whittaker, the US envoy to the Middle East, in Doha.
A Hamas source told Al Jazeera: This formula includes a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 Israeli prisoners and the bodies of dead prisoners in exchange for the release of several Palestinian prisoners, so that 5 Israeli prisoners will be released on the first day of the agreement and another 5 prisoners on the 60th day.
The source emphasized: The proposal also includes the entry of humanitarian aid at the rate of one thousand trucks per day and the withdrawal of the Zionist occupying forces from the eastern, northern, and southern areas of the Gaza Strip on the fifth day of the ceasefire.
According to the source, the US had committed to leading serious negotiations that led to a complete cessation of hostilities and not to resume military operations if the negotiations failed during the ceasefire period.
