American expert: Midterm elections were an uprising against Trump’s corruption

Midterm elections

PNN – An American expert has characterized the U.S. midterm elections as a revolt against corruption within the Trump administration and high inflation.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Jacob Heilbrunn—an American expert and journalist—discussed the reasons behind the Republicans’ heavy defeat in the U.S. congressional midterm elections, as well as Donald Trump’s standing following this major setback, in an interview with the Swiss broadcaster SRF. He stated: As a former U.S. President, Trump certainly still wields significant power and could govern through executive orders; however, his ‘Make America Great Again’ movement has been brought to an end by this ‘blue wave.’

He added: American voters have risen up against the corruption of the Trump administration and the high inflation that he fueled through tariffs and a war against Iran.

The American expert continued: Trump wanted to rule like an autocrat. For the past two years, there was essentially no Congress to provide oversight of the administration, but that situation is now changing. This man was very dangerous, and this election is a blessing.

Regarding Trump’s base of loyalists and what might become of them, he added: This base still exists—which is not unusual in the United States—but it is no longer growing.

The American expert further noted: The key point is that independent voters have now clearly cast their ballots for the Democrats. Trump’s loyalists alone are no longer sufficient to secure major victories.

In another part of this conversation, Jacob Heilbrunn stated that the Democrats won this election because they fielded moderate candidates. Their formula for success involved opposing Trump while simultaneously pursuing an economic strategy that benefits the middle class, rather than focusing exclusively on explicitly left-wing issues.

He added that following these elections, Congress will be revitalized as a system of checks and balances. The Democrats will pursue a two-pronged approach: on one hand, they will focus on the future and attempt to curb Trump’s power—a challenging task, given the high cost of living and the President’s ability to block legislation. Nevertheless, the Democrats will seek to compel Trump to cooperate by putting forward specific proposals.

According to Heilbrunn, a wave of congressional investigations into Trump will also be launched. He added that these efforts are expected to expose various illicit activities by Trump’s allies within the administration, and that such corruption must be brought to an end.

He emphasized that, under these circumstances, the Republican Party has no choice but to distance itself from Trump.

This American expert stated: The future of the party is now completely wide open. For potential successors to Trump—such as Vice President J.D. Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who were closely aligned with him—this outcome is a nightmare. Their hopes of taking charge of this movement and leveraging it for their own benefit have been dashed.
