PNN – The Axios website, citing two American officials, claimed that American and Iranian negotiators made progress in talks yesterday and are closer to a framework agreement to end the war.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the website added: Iran and the United States, with the help of Pakistani, Egyptian and Turkish mediators, have been trying to bridge the remaining gaps and reach an agreement before the ceasefire expires on April 21.
A Pakistani delegation led by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran today for talks with Iranian officials.
Axios added that US officials and sources familiar with the mediation process said that reaching an agreement was not guaranteed, given the significant differences between the parties.
A Pakistani official said: We have to wait and see if we can reach an agreement. We are hopeful and, based on that, we are trying to work with both sides.
The American media outlet continued: A US official said that President Trump’s negotiating team, including Vice President J.D. Vance, White House envoy Steve Whitakoff, and Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner, continued to hold calls and exchange draft proposals with the Iranians and mediators on Tuesday.
The American official said: They were talking on the phone and negotiating with all the countries and are getting closer.
Another US official said progress had been made on Tuesday, adding: We want to reach an agreement.
A new round of direct, in-person talks is likely to take place in the coming days before the ceasefire ends, according to US officials and sources familiar with the mediation process, but no date has been set.
Vance, who led the initial talks in Pakistan, last week, said at an event in Georgia on Tuesday: I think the parties sitting across from us want to reach an agreement… I feel very positive about the situation we are in.
Another American official said: The United States has not formally agreed to extend the ceasefire. Engagement between the United States and Iran to reach an agreement is ongoing.
