PNN – As the U.S. congressional midterm elections approach, polling data indicates that the Democrats are leading in races for both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, candidates are vying for all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate.
The latest polls show the Democrats ahead in contests for both chambers; however, the final outcome will be determined by seats where the competition remains tight.
With the U.S. congressional midterm elections set to take place next Tuesday, the overall picture emerging from the polls points to a Democratic lead.
American voters are heading to the polls to elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 members of the Senate.
Based on an average of polls conducted across the United States regarding this election, it appears that the Democrats are leading in both the House and the Senate; however, it is expected that the outcome will ultimately be determined by the districts where the races are tightly contested.
Democrats Lead in the Senate
According to data from the news website “RealClearPolitics”—which aggregates polls at both the national and state levels—Democrats are expected to secure 47 seats in the Senate, while Republicans are projected to win 45.
In eight states, the race between candidates remains extremely tight; of these, seven seats currently lean toward the Republicans, while only one leans toward the Democrats.
If the Republicans manage to win at least five of these eight highly contested seats, their total number of seats in the Senate will reach 50.
In the event of a 50-50 tie in the Senate, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance could use his tie-breaking vote to tip the scales in favor of the Republicans.
Under the rules, the U.S. Vice President—who also presides over the Senate—is permitted to cast a vote in support of their own party.
Democrats’ Lead in the House of Representatives
In the House of Representatives, where elections are held for all seats, any party that secures 218 seats will attain a majority.
According to current data from the “RealClearPolitics” platform, Republicans are projected to secure 182 seats and Democrats 227 seats in the House of Representatives.
In the ongoing contest between Democrats and Republicans for 26 seats in the House, the gap between the two sides is narrowing.
Consequently, the Democrats—who are projected to win the majority—currently hold the lead in the House of Representatives.
Current Situation
At present, Republicans hold 53 seats and Democrats hold 45 seats in the U.S. Senate, while the two independent members in the Senate frequently align with the Democrats on many issues.
In the House of Representatives, however, Republicans hold 218 seats, Democrats hold 214, and independents hold one, with two seats currently remaining vacant.
