PNN – The King of Morocco has appointed Fatima Zahra Al Mansouri as the country’s Prime Minister and tasked her with forming a new cabinet.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Moroccan news sources; the Royal Court announced that King Mohammed VI appointed Al Mansouri —a coordinator for the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM)—as the new Prime Minister today.
Al Mansouri thus becomes the first woman in Morocco’s history to be appointed Prime Minister.
Morocco’s parliamentary elections were held last Wednesday, and the Authenticity and Modernity Party secured the top spot by winning 97 of the 395 parliamentary seats.
Al Mansouri was born in the city of Marrakesh in 1976. A lawyer by profession, she entered the political arena in 2008, coinciding with the founding of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM). In 2009, she was elected mayor of Marrakesh, becoming the first woman to hold this position. She also served as a member of the Moroccan parliament for several years and was appointed by the King of Morocco in October 2021 as Minister of National Planning, Urban Development, and Housing.
