PNN – The Damascus Criminal Court, affiliated with al-Julani’s administration, has sentenced Ahmad Hassoun—the former Mufti of the Syrian regime—to life imprisonment.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network in the latest judicial move by al-Julani’s self-proclaimed administration in Syria, the so-called Damascus Criminal Court sentenced Ahmad Hassoun to life imprisonment on charges of inciting “violence and conflict.”
This verdict comes as many observers view the move as a performative and retaliatory act by the new ruling faction, which seeks to eliminate religious figures associated with the former regime.
Hassoun, who held a prominent religious position during Bashar al-Assad’s presidency, has been accused of supporting the former government’s security measures through his fatwas. However, supporters of the previous regime maintain that the trial lacks legal legitimacy and was conducted under pressure from Takfiri groups currently in power.
