PNN – A former Trump advisor has described the scale of the Republican defeat in the midterm elections as historic.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the Republicans suffered heavy defeats in the recent U.S. midterm elections.

In the news program “ZiB2,” ORF correspondent Barbara Welsch, former Trump advisor John Bolton, and financial market expert Monika Rosen analyzed the implications of this defeat for Donald Trump, the issue of war with Iran, and the U.S. economy.

During the program, John Bolton, Trump’s former National Security Advisor, interpreted the results of the congressional midterm elections as a clear indictment of Donald Trump.

He said: This vote was not in favor of the Democrats; rather, it was against Trump. For the Republicans, it was a sign that they need to move past the Trump era.

Bolton, for his part, did not cite a war against Iran as the primary reason for the defeat; however, he warned of the President’s unpredictability. Regarding potential future steps in policy toward Iran, he remarked: I think Donald Trump himself does not yet know what he intends to do.

Bolton also does not anticipate any shift in the course of the war in Ukraine. On this matter, he simply stated: Trump wants to impose peace on Ukraine, together with his good friend Vladimir Putin.

During the same program, Vlasek discussed the Republicans’ sweeping defeat, noting: The Democrats achieved gains they had never even dreamed of.

He added that a notable aspect was how personal the election campaign against Trump had become—to the extent that even the extensive support of Elon Musk proved unhelpful. According to him, this strategy backfired.

This Western expert noted that Trump will now face significantly greater resistance in Congress. He emphasized that while the President is not powerless, he should expect to encounter obstruction.

Wolschek described Trump’s situation as that of a “lame duck.”

Monica Rosen, a financial market expert, also identified high energy prices as a particular burden for the American public, noting that “perceived inflation” played a significant political role in this defeat. However, she believes that a swift end to the war involving Iran would not lead to an immediate drop in fuel prices.

Rosen also expressed reservations regarding trade policy, suggesting that Trump may now shift his focus more toward international affairs and the imposition of new tariffs.

She added that the most significant economic damage currently stems from the high level of uncertainty and instability.
