PNN – The President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas has cancelled the parliamentary elections scheduled for November.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing Reuters, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas cancelled the November parliamentary elections and announced September 11, 2027, as the date for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.

On Saturday, he issued a decree postponing the elections, citing obstacles caused by Israeli actions and the lack of suitable political, security, and on-the-ground conditions.

The decree cites Israel’s military attacks, the expansion of settlements, settler violence, movement restrictions, and the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues as obstacles to holding elections.

In the Gaza Strip, poor humanitarian and security conditions, the failure of Israeli forces to fully withdraw, slow reconstruction efforts, and restricted access for election commission observers and staff have also complicated preparations for the elections.

According to the report, this decision was reached following consultations with Palestinian political groups and factions, with the aim of creating an opportunity for national dialogue and strengthening Palestinian unity. Palestinians have not held presidential or parliamentary elections since 2005 and 2006.
