PNN – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has threatened Italian protesters with imprisonment.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; the Italian Prime Minister, referring to recent protests in the country during a televised address, stated: If you join a group of five or more people during a march or demonstration and begin throwing stones, firecrackers, sticks, or other objects, you could face up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as 20,000 euros.
She emphasized: Anyone who causes damage must pay for it. And if the individual who commits the act of destruction is a minor, their parents must bear the cost.
Continuing with her threats, Meloni stated: The parents of the child who found amusement in destroying everything must pay the price.
She added: We will do everything in our power to prevent what we have witnessed in recent days from becoming the new normal.
Prior to this, significant unrest and violence occurred during protests in various Italian cities, with some masked demonstrators looting shops, causing property damage, and clashing with police over the course of two days.
On Monday, Meloni consulted with ministers and security officials regarding further measures.
According to the police, 271 young people were detained during the recent unrest. Thirty-two individuals—including 23 minors—were arrested, while another 28 were reported to judicial authorities. Fearing a resurgence of violence, shops in Milan’s city center remained closed early Monday morning, with their windows secured.
Even in the affluent Via Montenapoleone district, merchandise was removed from shop windows, and police patrols were stepped up.
These unrests began over the weekend, following initial peaceful protests against inadequate public services and the rising cost of living. Clashes also broke out in several other cities in northern Italy.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella condemned the violent clashes in Milan and expressed his full solidarity with the security forces who were harmed.
