PNN – Moscow has warned NATO that it might resort to using nuclear weapons if the alliance attempts to sever the link between Kaliningrad and the Russian mainland.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; Russia has described the alliance’s actions as dangerous in a document sent to NATO and warned of the potential for direct conflict.
The document states that should NATO member states attempt to isolate Kaliningrad, Moscow would be prepared to use its full capabilities—including nuclear weapons—to defend the region.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the recent warnings issued by Russian embassies in several European countries regarding Kaliningrad as a way of reiterating Moscow’s official stance to “hardliners in Europe.”
Kaliningrad is a Russian territory situated between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic coast. In response, NATO stated that its activities and military exercises pose no threat to Russia.
