According to the report of Pakistan News Network citing The Washington Post; the US intelligence community has assessed that Saudi Arabia has not ruled out the possibility of developing nuclear weapons. This assessment is based on classified documents provided to Congress.
The assessment has raised concerns among some US lawmakers regarding the Trump administration’s agreement to support a civilian nuclear program in Saudi Arabia.
This agreement allows U.S. companies to build nuclear energy projects in Saudi Arabia.
Initially, the agreement limits uranium enrichment to less than 5%, but a subsequent agreement could authorize enrichment up to 20%—a level that can be further processed into weapons-grade material.
