“George Alam”, a Lebanese analyst, said in this regard: the case of the election of the Lebanese president is still in an aura of uncertainty. It is not yet known whether the new president will be elected in the meeting on January 9. In order for the meeting to be official, the presence of 86 representatives is required.
He added: It is not yet clear whether the meeting will be held or not, and only Nabiy Bari, the Speaker of the Parliament, has assured that it will be held on time. The process that the meeting on January 9 will take is not clear. There is still no agreement on a specific name, and the most obvious name is Joseph Aoun, which was announced by Druze leader Walid Jumblatt.
According to Alam, every scenario is discussed in the January 9 selection meeting, but there is no consensus on a specific name, and this consensus will be reached when America and the five-party committee decide, and this will be determined in the coming days.
Osame Wehbi, a Lebanese political analyst, also said: There are candidates, the most prominent of which is the commander of the Lebanese army. Especially since this candidate is supported by Jumblatt and he declared his support during his trip to France and meeting with the President of this country, Emmanuel Macron.
He added: There have been new changes that affect the process of electing a new president, including the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah and the withdrawal of Suleiman Faranjieh from the competition, which increases the chances of Joseph Aoun. The fall of Assad’s government, which supported Franjieh, also has a great impact in this regard. The president will not be elected in the January 9 meeting, but will be elected in other meetings that will not last long.
