PNN – Burkina Faso has announced to France that Paris must close its embassy in Ouagadougou within 7 days.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; citing Al Mayadeen, the government of Burkina Faso announced to France on Monday that Paris must close its embassy in the country’s capital.
According to the media outlet, Burkina Faso announced that France must close its embassy in Ouagadougou, the country’s capital, within a week.
The official announcement of the severance of diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and France should be seen as more than a bilateral dispute. This decision, announced by the transitional government of Burkina Faso on June 26, 2026, is in fact the continuation of a trend that began since Captain Ibrahim Traore came to power in 2022 and represents a redefinition of the country’s foreign policy based on national sovereignty, a reduction in dependence on traditional Western powers, and an expansion of cooperation with new partners.
The Burkina Faso government announced in an official statement that the conditions necessary to maintain diplomatic relations with France, including mutual respect, mutual trust, non-interference in internal affairs and respect for national sovereignty, no longer exist.
The statement accused France of adopting neo-colonial approaches, interfering in internal affairs and acting against Burkina Faso’s national interests.
