PNN – Mark Berkowitz, the Undersecretary of Defense for Space Policy, told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that the U.S. military currently has no system to defend against hypersonic weapons or advanced cruise missiles.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; during a hearing on the next-generation Golden Dome missile defense system being developed in the United States, senators asked him to describe the country’s current missile defense capabilities.
He noted: Today, we have a very limited single-layer ground-based internal defense system designed specifically to counter a small, arbitrary North Korean attack.
“We have a very limited capability against any other attack with ballistic missiles. We have no defense today against hypersonic weapons or cruise missiles, advanced cruise missiles.”
